Is granite here to stay? is granite a look that may eventually become dated? it is common in new kitchens and?

we are looking to redo our fireplace. we are going to do a oak mantle with granite worked in below the mantle and also a granite hearth. is this a look that could eventually be outdated or do you think that granite is here to stay in homes?
