How far do I need to go to help my brother and his family?

I would not lend your vehicle to him.What if they had had an accident in your van , you could also be held liable.I would forward them the names of car rental agencies that service the airport where they will land.The rental of the car would be the best solution .If they don't have a major credit card to rent one perhaps your parents will rent one for them to use.Airports offer shuttle service ( for a fee) as well.Your brother is not being fair putting your mother in the middle of this.He didn't even have the courage to call and ask himself, he foisted this on your mom.Don't feel obligated to loan your vehicle.Just curious, did your brother even offer to repay you for the previous damages?My guess is no.Think of what you would have spent that $1000. on or what you did without to pay it. Don't allow yourself to be guilted into this because he is your brother.As your brother,he should have loved you enough to do the right thing and repay you for the damage.Do you think he feels bad about that?
