Whats the difference between pale ale/amber beer and regular beer?

ive decided to buy my first beer yes i know im 29 but my having waited tillim 29 doesnt matter i just wanna know what the difference between the 2 is and what beer is best and at a cheap price?lease list the difference and also list the name of a few good beers and there price range
